In my short time with Guild Wars, I've been splendidly surprised by how varied the community is.

I approached Guild Wars, and mmorpgs generally, expecting to find it populated almost exclusively by nerdy, teenage boys.

Instead, I've found a range of players of all ages and both genders., most of whom seem to be socialble and literate. (I've not encountered any of the dreaded l33t speak yet, thank god!)

Yesterday, I was chatting to a 15 year old girl dressed in the smallest two piece outfit, and it managed not to feel pervy. (Of course, her in-game character was wearing the outfit, I have no idea what she was really wearing. I didn't ask. That would have felt pervy!

In-game and in forums, lady players are in abundance. Hooray!

But I am left wondering what proportion of players are male or female, and I am also wondering, how representative an in-game avatar is of the gender of the player.

Do you use an avatar of the same gender as yourself? If not, why not?

I ask all this in the name of academic interest. If it is a bit pervy, I apologise. By the way, what are you wearing? (Just kidding, folks!

)

I'm a Male playing Femal character... Spending countless hours behind the screen watching a male booty doesn't interest me

Agreed. There tends to be alot of male's and females in game, and the majority are good mannered and pleasent.

Im male, but I have a mixture of differant sex characters. The main reason being for some proffesions the female armours look much better than males, and vice versa.

Also, people never lie on the Internet. I catch people lying daily, be it about their gender, their profession, or their level of intellect.

I am male and my pve's are males
pvps are fems
xept for pve monk cuz i didnt like any of the male ones (they look fat -.-)

I play all male characters with the exception of my monk...because I think the looks and armors of male monks are hideous.

Guild Wars, and any MMO I guess, IS dominated by young guys. Most of the pretty female characters have a dude behind the screen controlling them. Some of 'em play females because they are nicer to look at, others...for reasons that are a bit more strange. But overall, yeah...mostly guys. I have met a few "real" girls though, that I talk to regularly.

Guild Wars is the only game where I play or make male characters. Male designs and dances are just awful.

I play male character cause, as a male in real life, i see portraying myself as female to be wierd. Just my personal opinion.

You're not portraying yourself as a female, you are controlling a female. No different from real life?

About four of the ten characters I have are female (elementalist, mesmer, dervish, and ritualist). The rest are males (warrior, ranger, paragon, necromancer, assassin, and monk). Bear in note that I'm a guy in real life.
